Character Creation

The first step is to choose your species. There are ten to select from. Each species has its own set of traits that improve skills or stats. These will automatically show up on your character sheet once you've selected your species; you can then decide if you'd like to improve these skills/stats or start on some new skills.

Each species comes with its own set of bonuses.

If you've played other roleplaying games you might be used to your hit points (life points) being determined by a stat. In this game, they are treated as a separate stat that you can increase by spending experience points. The three main in-game senses are considered stats as well (sight, smell, and hearing).

When you start you'll have 30 points to spend on your starting skills and stats (The 30 points are after species bonuses have been applied). You are free to distribute them as you like.

The biggest differences between stats (physical attributes) and skills are that stats all start with one level. Skills (apart from those given during character creation) start at zero. Stats and skills also advance at different paces; stats cost more and the cost per level increases faster.

All PCs get two stat increases, two skill increases, and two sense increases

+3 Stat +2 Stat +5 Skill +3 Skill +5 Sense 1 +2 Sense 2 vision type

Badger Stamina +2hp (3) Block Parry smell smell night vision

Cat Agility Intuition Dodge acrobatics vision hearing night vision

Bear Strength +2hp (3) Attack Observation hearing smell vision

Fox Intellect Intuition KAG(Fox) Observation hearing smell night vision

Horse Strength Speed Observation KAG(Horse) vision hearing vision

Mouse Intellect Intuition Observation Dodge smell hearing night vision

Rabbit Speed Speed Observation KAG(Rabbit) hearing hearing twilight vision

Squirrel Agility Speed Dodge acrobatics vision smell vision

Weasel Speed Agility Dodge acrobatics smell vision twilight vision

Wolf Stamina Strength Observation KAG(Wolf) smell hearing vision

Hyena Strength Stamina Attack Observation vision hearing night vision

Jackal Intellect Intuition Observation KAG(Jackal) hearing smell night vision

Hyenas and jackals are not available as player characters for now.

Diurnal species get vision. Nocturnal species get night vision. And there are also crepuscular species. How much a PC can see of a room's desc depends on the time of day. Can 'sell' sunglasses (inuit style or smoked glass) to those with night vision and lanterns that negate the daytime vision penalty.

vision- seeing into 'next room' (unless blocked by a closed door or something) to see more details as their skill improves. So a low vision skill might see '.. this..... there...three..........it.' or a reduced description that only shows the PC the most basic of information while a PC with a higher sense level would see 'On this table that sits in the corner there are three pancakes, one with butter on it.’

Hearing - can 'hear' into next room by using a command which lets the PC ‘eavesdrop’ on conversations for X (equal their number of levels) seconds, in a particular direction.

Smell - Can sometimes detect hidden doors/passages (depending on what’s behind it or where it leads to). Can identify individual PCs (to name if they know it). Can tell you who was in a room most recently (lists the last X PCs to exit the room). Can tell you what species (or by name if you know it) a disguised PC is unless scent is disguised as well.

Senses can be used to detect people trying to be stealthy/pickpocket/etc (hearing, vision), find hidden things (vision, smell)...

First step – Name your character

Second step – Choose your species. For this example, I'll choose a fox. The game will set your character up for you; foxes get +3 levels to intellect, +2 levels to intuition, +5 levels to hearing and +2 levels to smell. As nocturnal beings, foxes have better vision at night than during the day. You will also get skill improvements for their species; KAG(fox)(knows a guy) gets 5 points and 3 points for observation.

Here is what your character sheet would look like at this point:

Name: Foxen

Stat/senses Initlv +levs total before 30 xp

Agility 1 1

Intellect 1 +3 4

Intuition 1 +2 3

Speed 1 1

Stamina 1 1

Strength 1 1

HP 1 1

Hearing 1 +5 6

Sight 1 1

Smell 1 +2 3

Skills

KAGFox +5 5

Observation +2 3

This is the 'base' of your character.

Third step – Here you have 30 points to spend improving these skills/stats or on buying new skills.

Here is the same example from above with the 30 points spent thusly – 14 points to raise agility to level 2, 7 points to raise the skill KAG(fox) to level 4, and five points to buy the first level in the skill. This comes to a total of 29 points spent, leaving one point for future use. Any leftover points can be saved until you want to spend them.

Stat/senses base +lvs total

Agility 1 +1 2

Intellect 4 4

Intuition 3 3

Stamina 1 1

HP 1 1

Hearing 6 6

Once your character is set up you'll be able to enter the game world. As a new player, you'll start off with a mini-quest to help you learn the commands and setting of the game. Experienced players can start the game immediately.
